A wire is placed behind the anterior teeth and then bonded to the teeth to keep the anterior teeth aligned in place. Also known as a permanent retainer. This is usually used after treatment is complete.
Variations of the bonded lingual retainer:
- Round - FLR100 (.030)
- A variation of the Bonded Lingual Retainer that uses a “plain” wire. The wire is rigid and decreases the possibility of wire fracture. Best used for “canine-and-canine” retention.
- Twisted - FLR101 (.032) / FLR102 (.0195) / FLR103 (.015 triple twist)
- A variation of the bonded lingual retainer that uses a twisted wire consisting of multiple strands. This wire has a smaller footprint on the anterior teeth and is soft making it easier to bend to the anatomy of each tooth.
- Braided - FLR104 (.010 x .028)
- A variation of the bonded lingual retainer that uses a flat braided wire that is bonded on each tooth from 3 – 3. The flat face and braided surface allows a stronger mechanical bond to the anteriors while also being soft making it easier to bend to the anatomy of each tooth.
- Flossable - FLR115 (.026)
- A variation of the bonded lingual retainer with round wire where the lingual wire is bent to curve around the interproximal area of the teeth in order for the patient to floss between the anterior teeth.
Add-ons:
- Canine Pads
- A variation of the bonded lingual retainer with round wire where the round wire is soldered to bonding pads that give more surface area for bonding while also providing a stronger bond than the bonded lingual retainer with round wire.
- Krause (3 to 3 pads)
- A variation of the bonded lingual retainer w/ canine pads where all anterior teeth are
bonded to bonding pads.
Optional Bonding Guides:
- E-Z On Bonding Tray - FLR200
- A flexible and soft transfer tray that can be placed over the anterior teeth. There are reservoirs for doctors to place bonding material on the fitting surface of the tray with an escape channel for excess bonding material. This appliance assists with simplifying the bonded lingual retainer bonding process.
- Pink Putty Guidance Key - FLR205
- A lingual retainer bonding assist tool made of pink putty that is placed over the central teeth and holds the lingual retainer in place while a doctor bonds the retainer to the patient’s anteriors.
